Having a faith - what's it all about?

About Jesus

We believe God loves you – and Jesus is the proof of this.

The bible tells us that in the beginning “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31) God wanted us to live in a good world and He wanted to have a close friendship with each of us. Unfortunately man decided to reject God, to do his own thing and so ‘sin’ entered the world. ‘Sin’ is something that goes against what God thinks is right.

Sin separates us from God and the just penalty (consequence) for our sin is spiritual death. In the Old Testament times, God allowed animals to be sacrificed for people’s sin and would accept the shed blood in place of the person’s own life. But, ever since man had first sinned, God had planned a permanent solution: a final, once-for-all sacrifice that could pay the penalty for everyone’s sin and see justice done.

The plan was this: to send his own son, Jesus, to voluntarily offer His own life as the sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus is himself God and he was born as a human baby and lived on this earth leading a perfect, sinless life. This was prophesied by Isaiah hundreds of years before Jesus was born: “We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him.” (Isaiah 53:6)

And this is what God did. The fact that Jesus lived and walked on this earth is historical fact. There is more evidence of the existence of Jesus than there is of Julius Caesar. He was born in Bethlehem, grew up to be a carpenter, and lived a perfect life never sinning once. He loved and healed people, taught them about God and was then falsely accused and crucified by the Romans outside of Jerusalem. He did all this willingly because He loved you so much that He wanted to save you from the judgement you deserve. Hebrews 12:2 says: “…for the joy set before Him Jesus endured the cross, scorning its shame…” Then Jesus came back to life again three days after his death because Death could not hold the son of God.

This wonderful plan is summed up in one of the most well know Bible passages, John 3:16-18: “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in Him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust Him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to Him” (The Message Bible).

We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted at the hall door by a member of our Welcome Team.
We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service and you are welcome to join us. It is a great way to meet people. All refreshments are free but there is a plate for donations.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet on the same level as the worship room and hall.

IMG 7159Our Service

The main service begins at 10am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church and upcoming events and activities. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our band. We typically have a few songs lasting approximately 10 - 15 minutes. We then have prayers and a reading from the bible on which the sermon is based. Our minister or one of our leaders will then give a sermon which is usually very practical and we are encouraged to apply it to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song and blessing. There is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service. Communion is usually held on the second Sunday of the month.

What about my kids?

iStock-623301704-e159739484767Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, notices and songs . We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the songs someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. Children usually go out with their group leaders, you are welcome to take them the first few times and then join us back in the worship hall. have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:
  • 0-2 years meet in the Creche. We have a room close to the worship room for those with very young children. Children must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • 3-6 years meet 3 out of 4 Sundays in the Playroom
  • 7-11 years meet 3 out of 4 Sundays in the Children's room
  • 11 years + meet 3 out of 4 Sundays in the Youth room.
  • Young adults usually stay in service.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, praying, craft, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings some on zoom. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
